Christmas is a super special and important time in our family. We love getting all ‘Christmassy’, putting decorations up, playing ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel’ on repeat, mince pies and mugs of hot cocoa galore.
At the heart of all we do to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, though, is Jesus. ‘Christmas’ does after all begin with ‘Christ’.
I want my children to understand that Christmas is a time for us to gather together and give God thanks for the birth of our Saviour.
(Yes, we know Jesus wasn’t born on 25th December but that’s beside the point – which is why I’ll be blogging on this issue another time!)
We give them gifts, which of course they get excited about, but it’s all underpinned by the best gift ever – Jesus!
With that said, I would love to share with you some fantastic Christmas gift ideas I’ve found which help to put the focus back on to Jesus. Each heading, image and link you click will take you straight to that gift’s page on Amazon.
Let’s start with gift ideas for the kids
If you’d like your kids to get into Bible reading but perhaps you’re looking to present things in a way they will more easily understand and engage with, then one resource which may help is The Bible Made Easy for Kids.
This Bible has charts which explain complex facts and concepts, lots of line drawings for them to colour in and questions to prompt kids to think about what they’ve read and open up discussions. It also has great reviews. Brilliant.
Next on the list is a fantastic prayer journal for kids – covered in rockets!
It has headings inside to help prompt prayer, like: “Lord, today I am thankful for:” and “Father, in Jesus’ name I ask You:”. So good! And, if the kid you’re buying this for is anything like my boys, they’ll LOVE the design.
Who remembers these then?! I had hours of fun with these scratch art boards as a kid; now that I’m a parent, I appreciate that they’re a great, MESS-FREE way for the little humans to do some colouring-in (hallelujah). This set comes complete with scratch tools to reveal the rainbow effects underneath.
One for young children, the ‘Busy Nativity’ story book by Emily Bolam has push and pull tabs for little ones to have fun with as they follow Mary and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem. It has fantastic reviews on Amazon, too.
Now, on to gifts for adults!
How lovely is this set of scripture quote mugs?
I’m usually more of a minimalist design lover but these mugs are just so gorgeous; I can totally picture getting cosy on the sofa with one of these! They come in a set of 4, each with a different verse of scripture on the inside and are presented in a display box (so they’re easy to wrap too – bonus.)
This one sums up this blog post perfectly! A printed tea towel with the words: “The magic is not in the presents but in His presence“. Hits the nail on the head – and looks great to boot!
These wristbands are fantastic reminders of God’s word and, with their cool, monochrome design with subtle pops of colour, they’d suit teens and adults, guys and gals alike. They feature Bible verses such as Ephesians 6:10 and Jeremiah 33:3 – powerful words to wear and be reminded of each day. Perfect as stocking fillers and, as they come in a set of 4, that’s 4 of your loved ones taken care of in one go!
What’s Christmas without a pair of socks for dad? And what better pair than these as a reminder of the reason for the season?!
This one would also be a great stocking filler – it’s a cute little Bethlehem keyring!
And, finally, here’s one the whole family can enjoy!
We have so much fun with this Bible Trivia game in our house! We often pull this out at the end of a Bible study group or with the kids after a family meal and it’s a great way of opening up the word of God with old and young alike.
It says it’s suitable from age 6 upwards but, honestly, we’ve had this out after dinner with friends when the kids have gone to bed and it’s brilliant!
There are easy questions as well as some more challenging ones so it’s great for all the family. You can bring out your competitive sides too, if you’re that way inclined, and vie for points! And the best bit? It’s only £3.87 on Amazon with free delivery – click the link to get it before Christmas!
So there you have it – my round up of Christmas gift ideas which put Jesus back in the spotlight! If you decide to bag any of these for your loved ones, I’d love to know. If you’ll be taking photos and ‘gramming, then tag @melissalikes and let me know how they went down!
